Most fighters get a large portion of their money from a salary paid by the UFC. This salary often gets paid out fight-by-fight, and is open to negotiation, depending on the fighter’s performance. Rookie fighters often make significantly less than their more famous counterparts. The UFC pays some of its fighters well, but it’s not the only MMA organization that has some decent compensation. Rizin and ONE FC are two other fighting promotions, but in the world of MMA, Bellator is one of the main players outside of the UFC. Bellator is home to some great fighters, and they get paid quite well too. Maybe not as well as UFC combatants, but the best can earn six figures.

If you add in more realistic coaching fees and the likely much higher misc fees, both fighters are losing a lot of money.

Also, there are fight of the night and performance of the night bonuses that a small % of fighters will earn from each card.

To top it off, there’s the “discretionary bonuses” aka the locker-room bonuses that the UFC hands out to the fighters that they deem worthy, but these are far from guaranteed and they’re also very secretive so we’re not sure how to include those in our calculations.
